My name is Judy. I am a wife, a mother of six and grandmother of fourteen.

I have been knitting for most of my life. I taught myself to knit when I was in boarding school. The “in” thing to do was to make argyle socks. So, socks I made. To this day, my husband has about thirty pair of argyles which I made over the years.

After the birth of my first daughter, I started knitting again, and did so for all six of my children. As the years went by, people asked me if I ever considered selling some of the items that I was making, but at that point in my life there just wasn't enough time.

In 1990, with the encouragement of family and friends, I started “Custom Knit Sweaters”.  I did a few craft shows, and sold to a few stores in Maine. However, it soon became overwhelming, and I only sold via “word of mouth”. In no time, I had a customer list of about 400, from all over the United States.

Since 1990, I have expanded from just sweaters and hats to fashion scarves, winter scarves and hats and when I get a breather, I also make neat fuzzy felted mittens.

The patterns I use are of my choice, as I know which ones will produce the best results.

In May of this year, with the continued support of family and friends, I decided to try the “cyber highway” and have launched “Judy’s Hand Knits” with the help of a friend.

Judy’s Hand Knits will have the same items as “Custom Knit Sweaters”. The big difference is customers will be able to see first hand what the finished product will look like. In addition, they will be able to see and choose colors right on line.

Many of the pictures you see here are of my fourteen grandchildren as well as other family members and friends.

I have tried to keep the site simple, for example including shipping and handling in the total price. Also, I promise to work closely with each of you to give you a finished product that you will be proud of.
